Wandsworth and Barnes sit on the same south side of the Thames, separated by Putney, so the run is short and stays on one bank. From The Sea has had a fish counter in Barnes since 1972. Wandsworth has gained a lot of good independents in the last decade, particularly along Old York Road, and a wet fish counter is one of the few trades that has not come back. Buying from one changes what you can cook: mussels and clams by the kilo for a midweek pot, monkfish cut thick for a curry, hake portioned to the same size so it all comes out of the pan together.

Cooking for a weeknight? Ask for even portions and they will cook through at the same rate, which is the difference between one good piece and four.

Order online or call the shop. Order by 1pm and we cut, wrap and pack the same day for next-day delivery to Wandsworth. Delivery is free on orders over £60, and under that the rate is shown at checkout before you pay. Free local delivery covers Barnes and the neighbouring villages including Putney, so if you are at the western end of Wandsworth, call the shop and ask.

Barnes is a short drive from Wandsworth along the Upper Richmond Road through Putney. Order ahead and collect the same day, usually ready in about two hours. The counter is at 18 Barnes High Street, SW13 9LW, open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 4pm, with a Food Hygiene Rating of 5.
