Barnes and the ducks
A POND, A HIGH STREET AND A FISH COUNTER AT NUMBER 18.
The village
Barnes is built around its pond, and the pond belongs to the ducks. They cross the road when it suits them, in their own good time, and the whole street waits. Cars stop. Prams stop. Someone always smiles. It happens a few steps from our door, and we would not swap the spot for anywhere in London.

Number 18, since 1972
Beautiful but unprecious
A fishmonger has stood on this corner since 1972. The shop is family run and independent.
Marble, ice, a chalkboard of what came in and someone who will tell you straight what is good today. Come in for a whole turbot for the weekend or a single fillet for tonight. It is cut to order in front of you, and filleting is free.
A village within London, wrapped around a pond, where the ducks still stop the traffic.
